I'm querying on my romantic YA fantasy, Beneath the Trees. I think of it as the backstory to all my favorite fantasy.
I've always been the sort of person who really believes and therefore, wants to know more. I mean, how does a long standing Muggle family suddenly give rise to a witch or wizard? Who made the Vultari into vampires? Since the age of 12 when I first picked up a fantasy book, I so wanted Aragorn, Arwen and Gandalf to be real! Beneath the Trees grounds fantasy in reality, giving the fae, the immortals, a homeland and a history here on earth. It tells what happened to them. And where they are today. Here's the story in a nutshell.
The faeries aren't gone. The dark ones walk in the shadows still and the blood of the others runs in our veins. It was the Woodman girl who brought it all about. She wasn't a witch or a warrior. The weapon Rose Woodman used was love, and with it, she dealt the faeries a deathblow.
